In recent times, street art has emerged as a popular destination and attraction for tourists to visit on their travels. Street art can come in the forms of murals, graffiti, and signage and is an excellent way for artists to celebrate the heritage and history of their homes.
Look no further than GMR Aerocity in New Delhi for street art, where a 100-foot mural was painted in support of the Delhi Capitals leading into the second half of the IPL season. The mural was painted by ten local Delhi street artists with some help from cricket fans (of course) over the course of four days. The mural features some of the popular tourist destinations around Delhi, as well as three Indian cricketers (also all from Delhi) – Shikhar Dhawan, Ishant Sharma and Rishabh Pant.
As I touched on earlier, murals are often used to celebrate the heritage of people’s homes, but they are also important for other reasons. The mural at GMR Aerocity aims to perfectly encapsulate everything Delhi has to offer, and how proud the people are of their cricket stars. The head of Delhi Street Art said, “We hope this mural has a special place in the hearts of all Delhi people. With our art we have tried to capture Delhi’s unique qualities and its beloved cricketers.”
GMR Aerocity is located near the Delhi airport and hosts some of the fanciest hotels, fine dining and much much more!! It is already a popular tourist destination for travellers venturing to India, so while you’re there, go check out this beautiful mural (I know I will be)!!
